Panel 2: Urban Renewal and Student Living: Strengthening Hong Kong’s Academic and Economic Competitiveness
The QS World University Rankings ranks Hong Kong among the top 20 study destinations, reflecting its growing appeal to international students based on affordability, diversity, and job prospects. The government's pilot “Hostels in the City Scheme” aims to strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a hub for post-secondary education by encouraging the market to convert commercial buildings into student hostels. This panel will explore the interplay between asset conversion, urban renewal, and community engagement, highlighting how well-designed student housing is vital for not only enhancing Hong Kong's academic reputation, but also strengthening our knowledge-based economy, fostering innovation, and driving economic competitiveness.
